3.31

this much nature
leads to labor.
the till of wet metal all morning.
dividing rows as neat as a comb through grease.

how come it has become
every plan
a neatly packaged evening.
either tea and whiskey
or a million footraces.
we lost our lists this way.
so plucked over by movement
there was no railing
no hold.
divisions offed us
the dirt became a tangle.

angling through open doors.

the funny thing about having a good day at work is that the second you leave, it can all go to shit. usually it seems it's the other way around. but today, the second after i took my first steps out that office door, it went awry. i realized i had forgotten my lunch leftovers. kind of annoying, no big deal. then i was supposed to make dinner plans, realized my cell phone was out of batteries. in a slight huff, i bought the wrong kind of food for dinner accidently with cash, then realized i didn't have my ATM card - which also meant, I couldn't go to the bank and deposit my paycheck. rushed back to work for the leftovers, and looked down for a second while crossing a crosswalk and tripped over the sidewalk curb and did a nose dive as a cop car was passing. cop stopped to yell out if i was ok, and i growled yes, and he laughed at me and said 'just checking'. i think i broke my camera. my palms bloddied i stumbled back into the office and grabbed my bag of old salad greens and scowled home only to run into my upstairs neighbor. who glared at me as i checked my mailbox. proceeded to tear my room apart for my ATM card, and then, traced it back to leaving it in the atm. i mean, that makes me feel so ridiculous i can barely speak. instead i yelled - and my upstairs neighbor stomped around. i called the bank, and they had the ATM card. but were closing. the rest of the night better be excellent.
